The Allure

Deep, majestic, and pulsing with the rugged spirit of Portugal's wildest river canyon. While casual red drinkers limit their cellar selections to classic Bordeaux or Italian giants, the true wine vanguard looks to the sheer schist slopes of the Douro Valley. Crafted by the globally accomplished winemaker Rui Roboredo Madeira, who returned to his native soils to champion indigenous varieties, this Reserva captures the dramatic essence of the upper Douro. It is a beautifully balanced, high society red that marries rich, port style intensity with a refined, high altitude freshness that completely redefines Portuguese table wine.

Why It’s Exceptional

The Taste: A dense, deeply concentrated ruby red pour in the glass. The nose is incredibly expressive and multilayered, opening with powerful aromas of ripe wild blackberries and elegant floral hints, framed by sophisticated undertones of sweet baking spices and warm vanilla. On the palate, it delivers a full, opulent mouthful of dark fruit, masterfully kept agile by a bright, refreshing vein of acidity and carrying into a remarkably long, polished finish.

The Pedigree: A classic Douro blend of fifty percent Touriga Nacional, forty percent Touriga Franca, and ten percent Tinta Roriz. The fruit is hand harvested from estate vineyards planted on steep schist soils along the left bank of the Douro, sitting at high altitudes between 125 and 250 meters above sea level. Following gentle crushing, the grapes undergo a cold maceration for 48 hours before a fifteen day temperature controlled fermentation. The wine is then aged for eight months in second and third fill American oak barrels to polish its structure while maintaining absolute varietal purity.

The Ritual: An absolute powerhouse at the dinner table that benefits from a bit of breathing room. Decant it for thirty minutes before serving at cellar temperature (around 16 to 18°C) to allow its rich floral and spice complexity to expand. Its structural muscle and elegant fruit profile make it an elite match for slow roasted lamb shoulder, grilled ribeye steak with chimichurri, rich venison stews, or matured hard cheeses.
